Socorin

The app

Socorin is open-source software under the Apache License 2.0. That license sets the rules for using, changing and redistributing the software, and it provides the software as is, without warranties. The Windows and Linux builds are experimental.

The sharing service

Sharing is free and needs no account. We run it on a best-effort basis: there is no service level agreement, and we do not promise that it is always available or that a link keeps working.

At the moment a file can be at most 15 MB, in one of these formats: PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, MP4, WebM. Files are deleted 60 days after the upload, and the server limits how much one IP address or one install can upload. When storage runs out, the oldest files are removed early. We may change these limits, or suspend or end the service, at any time.

Keep your own copy of everything you upload. The service is for passing a screenshot or a recording to someone, and it is no place to store or back up files.

Your content

What you upload remains yours. You are responsible for it, and you need to have the right to share it. By uploading a file you allow us to store it and to show it to anyone who opens its link. We use that permission only to run the service.

What is not allowed

Do not upload or share:

  • anything illegal;
  • child sexual abuse material, or any sexual content involving minors;
  • malware, or files meant to damage a system or break into one;
  • phishing pages, scams, or content that impersonates someone;
  • harassment, threats, or material that exposes where someone lives or how to find them (doxxing);
  • other people's private information that you have no permission to share, such as identity documents, financial or medical details, private messages or intimate images;
  • content that infringes a copyright or a trademark;
  • spam or advertising.

Do not use the service:

  • as a content delivery network or an image host for a website or an app, including by hotlinking files;
  • for automated or bulk uploads, or from scripts and clients other than the Socorin app;
  • in ways that get around its limits or a block, for example by resetting the install ID or switching IP addresses;
  • to attack the service, overload it or probe it for weaknesses.

If you have found a security problem, please report it privately as described in the project's security policy.

What we do about violations

We do not review files as they are uploaded; we act when something is reported or otherwise comes to our attention. We may remove any file, block its checksum so that the same file cannot be uploaded again, and block the install it came from. We may do this without notice, and we may report illegal content to the authorities.

Reporting a file

Write to [email protected] with the link and the reason. The link under a shared file that says "Report this file" starts that email for you. Socorin is a small project, so we cannot promise a response time. We review reports as soon as we can.

If a shared file infringes your copyright, send a notice to [email protected] that contains:

  1. your name and a way to reach you;
  2. the work you hold the rights to, as a description or a link to it;
  3. the share link of each file you want removed;
  4. a statement that you own the rights or act for the owner, and that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized;
  5. a statement that the information in the notice is accurate;
  6. your signature; a typed full name is enough.

We remove the file when the notice is complete and the claim looks valid. Uploads are anonymous, so we usually have no way to contact the uploader. If you think your file was removed by mistake, write to the same address with the link and an explanation.

No warranty, limited liability

The app, the website and the sharing service are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind. As far as the law allows, the Socorin maintainers are not liable for loss or damage that comes from using them. That includes a lost file, a link that stops working, and whatever other people do with a file you shared.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights that the law of your country gives you and that cannot be waived.

Changes and contact

When these terms change, we update this page and the date at the top. If you keep using the service after a change, the new terms apply to you. Questions go to [email protected].
